Disney Pirates Top All
The pirate is a staple of the Halloween party costume. A pirate’s clothing was unique because it was mostly rags and sashes and no two outfits were exactly the same, which makes the pirate costume one of the easiest to assemble and most recognizable of costumes. A few pieces of clothing and a few accessories is all one needs, and groups could go as pirates without worrying about being slightly different. Can’t do that if everyone went as police officers or a sports team.
The best pirate costumes are the ones that can be recognized as a specific pirate. Before Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean films were released the most recognized pirate was Long John Silver, or Blackbeard, and even those pirates weren’t as defined as Jack Sparrow or Elizabeth Swann are now. Of all the Halloween pirate costumes, these two are the premium choices.
Elizabeth Swann wears a multitude of outfits throughout the films. There are several dresses and gowns that are very elaborate and full of so much detail, if you did find a costume that came even close to a match it is not a costume, or it costs a fortune. The more recognizable yet simpler piece of her wardrobe would probably be the burgundy and black dress dress with gold trim that Barbossa gave her while she was aboard The Black Pearl. There isn’t as much detail as her formal wear, which is good. The necklace Barbossa put around her neck would make a perfect addition. Elizabeth also had a pirate outfit that can be found in any online costume shop, but may not make the wearer instantly recognized at that specific pirate.
For the right Jack Sparrow gear, you will need an off white long sleeve shirt with large tight cuffs under a vest of faded blue. Jack would wear two belts with large buckles around his waist, as well as a fabric sash of white and faded-red stripes. A third belt of leather was sometimes worn across and down his chest with another buckle on it. Brown, worn out pants and boots fit for a pirate makeup the lower half. If you want to get bold you can even copy the tribal facepaint Sparrow had below his eyes. (of other eyes) If you decide against the tricorn hat, any shade of red or brown handkerchief head covering should work. Long dark hair is a must, and Jack had a mustache and goatee that came down in to two beaded ends. If you don’t have the whiskers, there are Pirates of the Caribbean accessory kits, including the Jack Sparrow facial hair kit.
