One of the all time classic Halloween costumes for boys has to be the pirate. Even before the Disney “Pirates” phenomena took pirating to a whole different level, dressing up as a pirate like Blackbeard or Long John Silver was a popular choice for trick or treaters over the decades. The costumes were easy to make at home, with some striped pants, a fabric sash, eyepatch, stuffed parrot, and the weapon of choice of course. The other part of a pirate costume that makes it fun to wear is the voice you get to use while wearing it.

The boys pirate costumes:

Today the pirate costume remains one of the easiest to assemble out of the little you can find. If you want all the frills but don’t own any lace, gold trimmings, boots, tricorn hat, etc. there is an even easier alternative. Buy a pirate costume for your son online. The prices to buy an awesome boys pirate costume still beat the expensive costume rental shop prices in town, and you get to keep it without worrying about getting a deposit back. (many don’t after one accidental spill) He will get a few years use out of it before he outgrows it, and he will look like the saltiest sea dog to ever sail the seven seas. (just beware the scurvy matey, it’s a dreadful thing)

After you have selected your costume and are awaiting its arrival, there are many extras you can add to make your son’s pirate costume stand out. Of course there is the eye patch, a cheap accessory but one of the best. If you would rather your son have depth perception while out in the streets at night, there is always the hookhand, also available from any online shop. Facial hair kits are another great add, especially when combined with some “dirt” makeup on the face, and perhaps even a scar across the cheek. A small satchel with some gold treasure or even a treasure map would go great with the outfit, and a head tie or handkerchief tied around the head is an easy addition that can make a world of difference. For a weapon, there are many pirate swords available from the shops, just use the belt most pirate costumes come with as the holster. All of this combined with a quick lesson in “pirate talk” will make your scallywag son ready to pillage and plunder the village of its sweet candy treasures.

“Yar!”
